JLOPEZ- Riverbend Blog thoughts

What makes the Riverbend blog so notable is it’s ability to shift the focus we may have on war and completely makes us realize what life is like on the other end. The collective blog as a whole is an impactful narrative that shows us that war affects both opposing forces equally.
One of the more striking blogs that really stood out to me was the New Talent entry that was posted in 2003. Riverbend talks about how the war has caused her to gain a new talent, the talent to distinguish if shots fired, the type of gun being used, and distance. The line, “I keep wondering… will an airplane ever sound the same again?” certainly did strike a nerve. It is genuinely saddening to realize that this is one of the realities that way forces on civilian life.

  1. It is definitely interesting to hear about war from the other end. When we go to war with other countries the enemy is always painted to American citizens as inhumane and almost like a monster--that way killing them won't seem as harsh. Although, Riverbend breaks that boundary. She lets us into her everyday life which no longer allows us to view the enemy as anything less than a person. It makes the idea of war much more real which causes the reader to rethink the situation as a whole.
