Aspects of the war in the age of terrorism

Varying aspects of war have changed in the age of terrorism: enemy, location, technology and war strategies. In the age of terrorism, the enemy is not a particular nation-state. Instead, the enemy is an idea that has spread across multiple nations and organization under the guise of a religion, making it difficult to distinguish the enemy from innocent civilians. As the enemy is not one particular nation-state, the location of war is not contained in one particular area. Instead, the location of the war is global.
War in the age of terrorism has introduced new war strategies and technology. Female soldiers are now able to fight on the front lines in war, where previously they were not able to be a soldier or to be involved in combat. Drones and IEDs  are some of the technological advances in the age of terrorism.
Veterans of war can  develop PTSD, however veterans of war during the age of terrorism can be said to have worse PTSD (if such thing was possible). As the age of terrorism continues, the enemy can come in the form of children as young as 6 ,a trash bag or an animal carcass. This makes it difficult for veterans to successfully assimilate back into civilian life as what was once deemed innocent can no longer be deemed as such. For if they were still overseas, if they didn't properly check the trash or be on alert around individuals, it could very well be the last thing they do before they are shipped back home in a coffin.

War in the age of terrorism has changed as information can be easily accessed, again linked to the enemy recruiting new members or for civilians to see what was once private videos (execution videos) on the television daily.

  1. I'm sure PTSD could potentially be worse in the age of terrorism because soldiers have to kill those 6 year old children if they are a threat or the woman holding a grenade, as opposed to the other man in uniform with a gun. That must really take a toll on someone's psyche.
