Benedict and Turner: Gender Divide
What I found most interesting about the comparison between Benedict and Turner was the perspective each author told his or her story from. The fact that they were both different genders made a huge difference in their storytelling. Benedict wrote her story from the eyes of a female soldier in Iraq. She revealed the hardships that women in a mostly male dominated line of work such as harassment from the men. Turner does not discuss how he was treated from the other soldiers, he mostly talks about what he experiences in combat. Both their viewpoints are very similar in what they see but how they told affect their personal experiences as a soldier.

It pains me to know that so many men who represent our Country and it's military have done such terrible things with regard to sexual harassment and assault. I am glad the Marine Corps in particular has recently cracked down hard on its ranks and put mechanisms in place to alleviate the problem. But it is still unfortunate that it is even an issue at all.
