Justice vs. Practicality

I’m going to be very honest about this. If we’re talking sympathy, I have none. Maybe it’s the Texas in me, but I feel no remorse whatsoever for the torture of the terrorist prisoners involved in the 9/11 attacks. You think water boarding or being shoved in a box is torture? Try getting crushed by cement or being forced to jump out of a building that just got hit by a plane, or even being the family of those victims. Enhanced interrogation is nothing compared to that. But if we’re talking practicality, torture probably is not very effective in collecting accurate information. The interrogator will only stop after hearing what he wants to hear. And prisoners will tell lies to make it stop. Either that, or the prisoner will feel so much hate for his interrogator that he will never give in. There is also the possibility that it is the wrong guy.

Practicality outweighing justice: no, enhanced interrogation techniques (torture) should not be used. So what is the solution…?
