Tim Wise

Tonight anti-racism activist,Tim Wise, gave a speech which largely addressed the concept of white privilege throughout America. Wise made a variety of points, but the issue he addressed which intrigued me the most was the denial of racism in our country. Wise stated, "The only progress we have made in the past 50 years is now in 2015 we know we shouldn't be racist." Today many Americans deny that race is an issue at all. Wise went on to name a number of examples of police brutality toward blacks. He then explained that even in these circumstances of blatant racism, many Americans still deny that the police brutality had anything to do with the victims skin color. While discussing the topic of racism denial, Wise made another valid point. He explained that white Americans often deny that racism is an issue and then these white americans claim to know more about racism than the people who racism is actually targeting and affecting.
Tim Wise's speech was extremely eye opening. He brought up topics and issues that I never thought about before. His speech made me think of situations from a completely different perspective.
