Being
able to talk and hear from Joshua LaViolette and his experiences were
so fascinating to me, especially since my boyfriend is a Navy Corpsman.
He always tells me these incredible stories of his time deployed and his
day to day experiences, so I really loved hearing them from Joshua. It
was wonderful to see someone who had an overall positive experience in
the military despite some of the tragic times. I especially loved the
stories about the grenade pin and having to deliver a baby at 19 years
old!!!!
Talking
to Joshua was so exciting. I wanted to ask him more about the things he
did and saw (medically) during the tragic times, but I did not want to
be invasive about topics that could be upsetting to recall. I'm sure his
experience shape who he is today in some way or another. I'm sure he
views things differently too. I always try to understand the things my
boyfriend tells me but I don't think you can ever truly understand
unless you've experienced them yourself. I really think it takes a special type of person to serve in the military, especially for so many years. It certainly is not something I could ever do, but I have the utmost respect for Joshua, and all the men and women who do.
