Ethical Dilemmas

One ethical dilemma that is presented in Zero Dark Thirty is bribery. We are presented an instance of bribery when Dan buys the Kuwait man a Lamborghini in exchange for a phone number. While exhortation through bribery is extremely unethical the ramifications of that bribe has the potential to save thousands of lives and bring the CIA closer to finding their desired target. Unethical behavior within the film proves to lead to ethical results, the prevention of any future disaster and can lead the operation to finding even more desired targets.

The film is very well done and presents a clear image of working in the CIA in modern times. The film also shows the separateness of the executive and the CIA workers like Maya.

  1. I definitely agree with you. Even if the actions of the modern CIA are unethical, the information gained (which ultimately saved innocent lives) is much more valuable than cohering to ethics.

  2. I agree with you 100% in that unethical behavior within this film proves to lead to ethical results and in return saving thousands of lives and finding a more desired target. Their actions however are still not ethical nor does the results make it but the reward is purely for the greater good and is "more valuable than cohering to ethics."
